Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, who earlier confirmed his intention to seek reelection in the upcoming 2025 elections, yesterday said that he welcomes anybody who may want to run against him in the gubernatorial race.
We cannot choose our opponents. Everything is possible, Lacson disclosed.
Pressed for his reaction to reports that former Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca announced that he will either run for governor or as congressman in the third district, Lacson said “anybody can run for whatever position.”
“Yes, I’m welcoming it”, he said.
Palanca is a member of PDP-Laban.
Lacson earlier pledged his support for the plan of final term Board Member Manuel Frederick Ko to run for Abang Lingkod partylist representative, replacing Stephen Joseph Paduano, who is also on his final term as the partylist representative.
The filing of certificate of candidacies for the 2025 midterm elections is slated for October this year.
“The political season is on already. So it’s natural for political parties to organize with one intention for the 2025 election,” Lacson said.
The governor said he will continue “to work hard,” stressing that it will be the people who will judge his performance.*
