The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Negros Occidental Provincial Statistical Office in collaboration with the different local government units through the municipal and city civil registry offices and other stakeholders spearheaded this month-long observance of the 33rd Civil Registration Month celebration with the theme, “PSA@10: Providing Efficient and Effective Civil Registration and Vital Statistics through Digital Transformation.”

PSA Negros Occidental, in partnership with the City Civil Registry Office of the City of Kabankalan, kicked off the month-long celebration of the 33rd Civil Registration Month on February 2, with a Motorcade around the city proper and a program.

Staff from PSA Negros Occidental Provincial Statistical Office, City Civil Registry Office, and the beneficiaries of the PSA’s PhilSys Birth Registration Assistance Project (PBRAP) participated in the event.

The objective of the program is to ensure all births of Filipinos are registered in the local civil registry, especially those from the marginalized sector and indigenous people, enrolling them with the PhilSys National Identification System.

During the program, Mayor Benjie Miranda gave his message assuring his support to the different activities of the PSA and the local civil registry office.

Presidential Proclamation No. 682 signed on 28 January 1991 by then President Corazon Aquino, the month of February of every year thereafter was declared as the Civil Registration Month. The observance of this annual celebration aims to remind Filipinos of their duty to register vital events in their life such as births, marriages, and deaths, as well as decrees, legal instruments, and judicial orders affecting their civil status.

Statistical specialists John Campomanes and Ramon Locsin, with Mayor Miranda and OIC City Civil Registrar Monalisa Tabujara, awarded the birth certificates in security paper (secpa) copy to the 42 beneficiaries of the PBRAP, where Aurelio Resco Manlapao of Barangay 8, Kabankalan City was the oldest among the beneficiaries at 90 years old.*
