A 34-year-old male from Barangay Punta-Taytay, Bacolod City recently succumbed to leptospirosis.
The Bacolod City Health Office recorded two deaths due to leptospirosis in Bacolod City and three other persons as having been infected, during the period covering January 1 to March 23. Out of the 5 infected individuals, one was female.
The CHO reported an 82.1 percent decrease in the number of leptospirosis cases in Bacolod compared to the same period last year, which recorded 28 cases and four deaths.
The barangays with the highest number of cases are Pahanocoy, Felisa, Alijis, Punta-Taytay and Vista Alegre.
The most common reason for complications and death is due to delayed health seeking behavior, and denial of leptospirosis infection, the CHO reported.*
