The Bacolod City government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, is set to distribute P125,000 in cash assistance to 17 families affected by the fire in Purok Paho, Brgy. Alijis, Bacolod City Sunday.

Pacita Tero, City Social Welfare and Development head, said they already distributed food packs to affected residents, who are currently staying with their relatives.

Tero said the families, whose houses were destroyed by the fire, will receive P10,000 in cash assistance each, P5,000 each for those whose homes were damaged, and P3,000 for renters and sharers.

She said that, based on their latest count, as of yesterday, 10 houses were destroyed and two were damaged while five sharers were affected.

The fire that broke out before noon Sunday was believed to have been caused by an unplugged electric fan at the second floor of the house owned by Marilyn Encarquez, arson investigator, FO3 John Mondido, told the DAILY STAR. The fire easily spread as the houses were situated close to each other and were made of mixed light and concrete materials.*
