Another member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1991 joined his classmates in their assignments in the Visayas region, as a commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Visayas Command.
In his assumption of the Visayas Command leadership at Camp Lapu-Lapu in Cebu City, Maj. Gen. Fernando Reyeg on April 24, was also promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
Reyeg succeeded Navy Commodore Oscar Canlas, who served as VISCOM acting chief, for more than a month, following the mandatory retirement of Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo from the AFP.
Prior to his present position, Reyeg served as the AFP Deputy chief of Staff for Operations.
He also worked in various command and staff positions, including as the Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Education, Training, and Doctrine, AJ8; Joint Task Force Basilan; commander of the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion; and Chief of Staff of 6th Infantry Division and Chief of the Unified Command Staff of Western Mindanao Command.
In a statement issued by the VISCOM Public Information Office, AFP chief of staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., who presided over the change of command ceremony, called on Reyeg to embrace resilience, innovation, and adaptability.
“Continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and honor. Together, we will face the future with courage, resolve, and with the unshakable belief that the Visayas Command will always be a force to be reckoned with,” Brawner told the new VISCOM chief.
Other members of PMA Class 1991 assigned in Visayas are Maj. Gen. Marion Sison, 3rd Infantry Division, and his deputy, Brig. Gen. Leonardo Peña, Brig. Gen. Michael Samson, 302nd Infantry Brigade commander in Panay, and Brig. Gen. Orlando Edralin, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander in Negros.*
