Bishop Patricio Buzon yesterday announced the suspension of the celebration of masses in Catholic churches in Bacolod City starting today until September 15.

“Funeral masses and other celebrations of the sacraments, however, shall continue provided that only 10 persons are to participate and that existing health protocols are strictly observed,” the bishop said in a press release.

This is in answer to the continuing plea for help from frontliners, given the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and an overwhelmed local health care sector, he said.

This is also in line with the consensus of the multi-sectoral groups and the government as now articulated in Executive Order No. 57 placing Bacolod City under General Community Quarantine, he added.

“The Diocese hopes that this gesture of solidarity and cooperation will help flatten the curve of the COVID-19 infection in Bacolod City,” the bishop said.

This decision came after the bishop’s meeting with the Vicars Forane of the Diocese of Bacolod and the Diocesan Multi-Commission COVID-19 Technical Working Group at the Bishop’s House yesterday.*
