A retired La Salle Brother is currently holding a solo art exhibition at The Negros Museum in Bacolod City, titled “Br. Manny’s Playground 2”, which will run until the end of the month.
A self-taught artist, Br. Emmanuel Hilado, FSC, was able to put more time developing into his passion for creating artwork, after his retirement in 2019.
His first solo art exhibit, titled “Bro. Manny’s Playground 1” was held at Museo De La Salle about three years ago, and featured 77 of his paintings. He donates 100 percent of the sales from his paintings to support Bahay Pag-asa Youth Center, a University of St. La Salle facility for youth in conflict with the law, in Brgy. Granada, Bacolod City.
Bro. Manny was able to develop varied artistic styles by painting regularly. Each artwork is a result of joyful experimentation and learning in his workshop, or “playground,” as he calls it.
He learned how to paint from numerous books, online art lessons, and workshops. He started out using only watercolors but has since also explored oil pastels, acrylics, mixed media, line art, and digital pointillism. He calls his works “playful learning, exploratory, and open to surprises.*
