An alleged top-ranking leader of the New People’s Army in central Negros has surrendered to local authorities in Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, also turning over a gun and explosives.
PCapt. Judesses Catalogo, spokesperson of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, yesterday said that the surrender of a rebel leader who holds the position of secretary of Central Negros 2 of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR NCBS), was a result of the localized peace engagements of the Moises Padilla municipal government, headed by Mayor Ella Celestina Garcia Yulo, town police and mobile force company, as well as the Philippine Army.
Catalogo said the woman rebel leader, also a political instructor of Central Negros 1 under KR NCBS, surrendered a hand grenade and other explosive materials, a .38 caliber revolver with three ammunition, and subversive documents.
In a statement, PCol. Leo Pamittan, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, commended the Moises Padilla LGU for facilitating also the surrender of the rebel leader.
Pamittan added that they will help in facilitating her enrollment to the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), where she is expected to receive financial and livelihood assistance, on top of the cash equivalent for firearm and explosives she surrendered.*
