Cop dies in motorcycle crash

A neophyte police officer was killed after the motorcycle he was driving figured in a collision yesterday at the national highway of Purok Ipil Ipil in Brgy. San Juan, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.

The victim, identified as Patrolman Reden Agus, a member of the Iloilo City Police Office, was declared dead on arrival at the Valladolid District Hospital, according to an initial report of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office.

Agus, a 31-year-old resident of Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, was among the policemen dispatched from Iloilo by the Police Regional Office 6, to secure the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City, which ended October 22.

Initial police investigations showed that the Yamaha Sniper motorcycle of Agus hit the Mitsubishi Canter vehicle, driven by Sonny Elet, of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, which was running in the opposite direction.

Agus was reportedly on his way home to Kabankalan City, when his driven motorcycle figured in the road crash.

According to the police, he was immediately brought by members of a local rescue unit of Pontevedra to the Valladolid District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician, Dr. Linade Cequiña.*
