Jealousy led a husband to kill his wife, using a hammer, in Sitio Lucay 2, Brgy. Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, the police said.
The suspect, identified as Saler Laurente, 44, surrendered to a barangay tanod several hours after committing the crime and was endorsed to the Kabankalan City Police Station for detention.
P/Lt. Col. Mary Rose Salve Pico, Kabankalan City police chief, identified the victim as Delbeth Laurente, 40.
Before the incident, the suspect and his wife reportedly figured in heated altercations while their two children were sleeping in a “kamalig (hut)”.
Pico said that the victim succumbed to injuries, after being hit with a hammer by the suspect, at about 1 a.m. of Feb. 16.
Initial police investigations showed that the suspect has not been eating well in the past several days, and was always drinking liquor. The husband suspected that his wife had another man, Pico said, adding that they are now getting the testimonies of the children of the couple, in preparation for the filing of parricide charges against him.*
