The Regional Development Council 6, through its Regional Culture, Heritage and the Arts Committee and NEDA 6, will launch “Saulog Taliambong” on Feb. 4, from 1:30-4 p.m. via Zoom.
This is the first online event of RDC 6 that will open the region’s celebration of the 2021 National Arts Month, on the theme “Alab Sining, Alay Sigla”.
From the Hiligaynon words ‘saulog’ that means celebrate, and ‘taliambong’ meaning art, the online event will showcase various works and performances of the artistic members of the RCHAC, a press release from NEDA 6 said.
These include dance, music, theatre, and literary pieces of Ana Divinagracia-Sartorio School of Performing Arts, the Capiz Singing Ambassadors of the Capiz provincial government, Iloilo Prima Galaw Theatre and Dance Company, and The Performance Laboratory based in Bacolod City.
Cecile Guidote-Alvarez, a Ramon Magsaysay Outstanding Asian Awardee for Public Service (1972) and president emeritus of the International Theatre Institute-Philippine Centre, will grace the online event as keynote speaker to discuss the importance of culture and arts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and in helping the Filipinos recover from the pandemic, the press release said.
“Saulog Taliambong” will also feature a special screening of the short film “Bawod” by award-winning Ilonggo film director and cinematographer TM Malones, also an RCHAC private sector member. Written by Joseph Israel Laban, “Bawod” tells the story of a 12-year-old girl in a small rural village in Iloilo as she faces the realities of poverty and the ominous vision of a ghostly man. It won the 2017 Cinemalaya Balanghai Award for Best Screenplay in a short film.
