A barangay tanod was reported by the police to have been mauled to death in Sagay City, while a minor drowned in Kabankalan City, all in Negros Occidental, on March 31.
Initial police investigation showed that the 32-year-old barangay tanod, whose identity was withheld, and his group were enjoying a dance party in connection with celebration of their annual fiesta, at the covered court of Brgy. Malubon in Sagay City, when a group came and mauled the victim and his companions.
The police reported that the barangay tanod was declared dead on arrival at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Sagay City, while his 21-year-old companion was discharged after being treated for his injuries at the same medical facility.
On the other hand, a minor was reported to have drowned, while she and her cousin were bathing at the Bayhao River in Brgy. Camansi, Kabankalan City, on Easter Sunday.
The 11-year-old victim, a Grade 5 student, was declared dead on arrival at the Holy Mother of Mercy Hospital in Kabankalan City, according to the police.*
