Victorias City is the first component city in Negros Occidental to collaborate with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for the implementation of the SEC Communication, Advocacy, and Network (SEC-CAN!) Project.

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez signed the memorandum of agreement for the partnership, together with SEC Director II Atty. Annabelle Corral-Respall on June 7 at the Victorias City Hall.

“We aim that every Victoriasanon will gain knowledge on effective management of money and debt through carefully designed financial literacy programs and investment scam awareness and activities,” said Benitez, in his message during the signing of MOA.

Benitez said he believes that the partnership with the SEC is a step towards a more progressive and sustainable economy.

Atty. Respall expressed her support for the city’s thrust for a sustainable economy and mentioned some of the programs of SEC, aligned with this advocacy.

With SEC-CAN!, the City of Victorias can now equip Victoriasanons with the knowledge and skills to understand financial principles and practices, investing, financial literacy, and investor protection, and avoid falling victim to investment scams and other fraudulent schemes, a statement from it’s the City Public Information Office said.*
