WVRAA ready for kick off in Negros Occidental

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City are hosting the 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association meet on May 2 to 7, where a total of 4,756 athletes and officials all over the region are expected to participate.

Hernani Escullar, spokesperson of the Department of Education in Western Visayas, yesterday said that there will be about 30 sports events during the WVRAA.

Escullar said that the annual sports event will follow the “winner take all” rule, which will be observed in team sports events such as  basketball, volleyball, baseball, football, futsal, softball and sepak takraw, based also on the guidelines of the Palarong Pambansa.

For individual sports events, there will be qualifying standards to be followed, where an athlete needs to qualify to join the Palaro, he added.

Escullar also that said 13 public schools in Bacolod City will host the different provincial delegations and technical officials, with Aklan delegates to billeted at the Mabini Elementary School and Graciano Lopez Jaena Elementary School; Antique at the Mansilingan Agro-Industrial High School; Capiz at Educational Training Center Schools I, II, and III; Guimaras at Bata Elementary Schools I and II; Iloilo – Andres Bonifacio Elementary Schools I and II; Negros Occidental – Negros Occidental High School, and the technical officials at Rizal Elementary School and Bacolod SPED Center.

He further said that the technical committee has conducted an inspection of the playing venues and billeting areas to make sure that they are ready.

“We want to ensure the security of the student- athletes, there is adequate supply of water and well-ventilated rooms,” Escullar added.
