A fisherman and a laborer were reported by the police to have drowned Saturday in Hinigaran and Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

The fisherman, identified as Joel Guanzon, 32, drowned when he was trapped in a fish net while he and his five companions were fishing within the territorial waters of Brgy. Tagda in Hinigaran.

Guanzon was declared dead on arrival at the Isabela District Hospital, police said.

The lifeless body of Narciso Esperal, 64, and a widower, was also discovered Saturday in the shoreline of Brgy. Talaban, Himamaylan City.

Before the discovery of his body, Esperal was reported to have swum across the Talaban river, the Himamaylan police said.

The police also said there were no traces of foul play in his death.*
