Legal action will be taken against two locally stranded individuals, who escaped from a quarantine facility in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, to buy alcoholic drinks and were later apprehended by the police, Mayor Neil Lizares said yesterday.

Lizares said that during the weekend, the LSIs managed to escape despite being on strict quarantine.

“They violated protocols and evaded the police only because they wanted to buy alcoholic drinks. Sadly, it is clear that they did not think of the possibility of infecting other people if they were COVID-19 positive,” he said.

Their actions speak of their being irresponsible, he said.

Fortunately, they were apprehended immediately and test results of the two LSIs turned out negative, Lizares said.

But their irresponsibility should not be justified nor tolerated, he added.

They must be meted with proper legal sanctions, he said.

“The panic and worry that this incident brought should not be forgotten. This should be a wake-up call to all who continue to violate the rules set forth by the government for our safety,” he said.

Lizares said his primary goal during this pandemic is to make sure that Talisaynons are safe and protected.

“In these trying times, the solution to this pandemic lies within us. It always starts with us being responsible in our actions,” he said.

The government can only do so much, the cooperation of all is the driving force that will make us win this battle, Lizares added.*
