28 distressed OFWs get financial assistance

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration yesterday awarded about P500,000 worth of financial assistance to 28 distressed/displaced overseas Filipino Workers from Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Rizza Joy Moldes, OWWA – Western Visayas officer in charge, led the awarding of financial assistance to seven Bacolodnons and 21 Negrense OFWs under the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program.

The beneficiaries, who came from Hinobaan, E.B. Magalona, Calatrava, Sagay City, Silay City, San Carlos City, Cadiz City, and Bacolod City, received a minimum of P5,000 to a maximum of P20,000 for their livelihood projects.

Present during the awarding of checks, which was held at the Hospital Operations Department Conference Room of the Provincial Capitol, were Salvacion Barrios, president of the OFW Federation of Negros Occidental, Inc., and Executive Assistant IV Marie June Castro, who is the coordinator of the project on Establishing and Institutionalizing Gender Responsive Migrant Resource Center, Help Desks, and Services for women migrants of Negros Occidental, supported by the International Labor Organization.

Prior to the awarding of BPBH checks, the distressed and displaced OFW beneficiaries attended a psychosocial counseling session with Bryan Villanueva of Riverside College, a press statement from the provincial government Public Information Office said.*
