3 leptospirosis deaths recorded

The Bacolod City Health Office has recorded three deaths out of nine suspected cases of leptospirosis in Bacolod City as of May 7.

The victims include a 48-year-old male from Brgy. Mandalagan, 50-year-old female from Brgy. Singcang, and a 28-year-old male from Brgy. Cabug.

Dr. Grace Tan, CHO Environmental Sanitation Division head, said the total number of cases this year is 40 percent lower than the reported cases last year which is 15 with three deaths.

Barangay Villamonte has two reported cases of suspected leptospirosis followed by Brgys. 40, 16, Mandalagan, Singcang, Tangub, Alijis, Villamonte with one each.

Tan said the common risk factors that may cause a person to get infected with leptospirosis is exposure to wading in flood waters, while the common complications and cause of death is refusal or late consultation.*
