Unidentified suspects on a motorcycle shot dead a former convict at Luzuriaga Street in Brgy. 14, Bacolod City, at about 6 a.m. yesterday.
Station 1 chief, P/Major Ramel Sarona, identified the victim as Benvienido Gellanga, 52, of Brgy. Singcang Airport.
Sarona said Gellanga died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds from an unknown firearm while the suspects fled the crime scene.
Witnesses claimed they heard at least six gunshots and saw Gelanga flat on the pavement blooded and lifeless.
Documents recovered from the victim’s bag showed that he had been released from the Iwahig Penal Colony in Palawan in 2018 after serving his sentence for a homicide conviction.
RENEWING LIFE
Mark Anthony Ibañez, 23, of Purok Paghidaet in Brgy. 35, the victim’s nephew, said his uncle had told them that he will renew his life after serving 17 years in prison for killing his cousin.
Ibañez said they do not know of anybody who has an axe to grind against his uncle, who worked as tricycle driver.
But he said that a few weeks ago, several bystanders mauled his uncle for a still unknown reason while he was on his way home to his rented place in Brgy. 14. Gellaga’s body was brought to the Abe funeral parlor, while the investigation on his killing continues, the police said.*
