An increase of nearly P2 was noted this week in the prices of carabao meat in various markets in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City.

Carabao meat is now sold at P269.98 per kilo in the market, from P268.55 last week, the Provincial Veterinary Office reported.

The prices of beef and broiler chicken also increased this week by 29 centavos and 43 centavos per kilo, the report showed.

Beef is sold at P281.14 per kilo from P281.43, and broiler chicken P182.42 per kilo from P181.99.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said that pork and native chicken prices remained at P231 and P253 per kilo, respectively.

Decena said the sudden shift of consumers to other meat products due to the African swine fever caused the increase of carabao meat, beef and broiled chicken prices.

As for eggs, small ones are sold at P6 per piece, medium – P7.24, large – P7.91, extra large – P8, and salted – P12.*
