The Sanggunaing Panlungsod of Bacolod City approved on third and final reading Wednesday the amendment of an ordinance increasing the allowance of barangay health workers (BHW) of Bacolod City.
The ordinance authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas is titled “Section 1 of City Ordinance 913, series of 2019 (An ordinance amending Section 4 of C.O. 623, series of 2012), or ‘An ordinance of increasing the allowance of BHWs in the City of Bacolod.’”
BHWs are the front-liners who provide health services and programs not only of the city but also of the barangays to make sure that the population is healthy, the ordinance said.
Their current allowance is not sufficient to cover their daily expenses in the performance of their duties and responsibilities to the people of Bacolod City, it said.
The ordinance said the Bacolod BHWs are working tirelessly as front-liners in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and are undergoing unprecedented risk for their personal well-being.
Under the amended ordinance, BHWs of Bacolod City will receive a monthly allowance of P5,500 from the previous P4,500.*
