The Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion reported that 565 residents of Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan City, recently withdrew their support to the New People’s Army, and also condemned their terror campaign, especially in the hinterlands.

This was after several armed engagements between Army soldiers and NPA remnants took place in Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan City, and neighboring hinterland areas, in the past several months.

Two weeks ago, a suspected NPA combatant died in an encounter with 62IB in Sitio Manlibod, Brgy. Trinidad, Guihulngan City, that led to recovery of war materials.

During a Local Peace Engagement activity, which was organized by the 62IB and 61st Special Action Force Company of the PNP SAF, and officiated by Brgy. Capt. Luciana Montecino, Trinidad barangay residents pledged to support to the government peace effort.

They also offered prayers and participated in the candle lighting ceremony for the victims of rebel atrocities and human rights violations in Guihulngan City, after former rebel “Ka RC” shared his painful experiences and miserable life while he was still an active NPA member.

The activity was highlighted by a symbolic burning of the CPP-NPA flag.*
