The police declared yesterday that the killing of a minor in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, on Jan. 1, allegedly by her stepfather, was “solved”.
Maj. Albert Sy, Sagay City police chief, made the declaration, after the arrest of the suspect he identified as Elias Granciso, 40, on Jan. 3, in Sitio Manara, Brgy. Puey, Sagay City.
The police also filed rape with homicide charges against Granciso before the Sagay City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday.
Sy said that, based on their initial investigations, the victim died of strangulation, and is believed to have been also molested.
While the suspect denied that he committed the crime in an interview with a radio reporter, Sy said they have video recordings where the suspect confessed his involvement in the crime.
Meanwhile, a senior citizen identified as Ramon Castro, was stabbed and killed by two suspects on Jan. 3 in Purok Kawayan, Brgy. Luna, Cadiz City, the police said.
Castro, 64, a widower, was declared dead on arrival at the Cadiz Emergency Clinic, the report added.
The two suspects, identified by the police as Reynaldo Aguirre and Generoso Borneo, fled after the incident.*
