A resolution requesting the Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) to strengthen its campaign against dengue prevention in the City of Bacolod, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.

The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said that based on the Department of Health Region VI Western Visayas update, between the months of January 1 up to February 10, there are a total of 60 recorded cases of dengue fever in the City of Bacolod, with seven recorded new cases from February 4 to February 10.

According to the World Health Organization, dengue, also known as break-bone fever, is a viral infection that is spread by mosquitoes to people. It is most common in tropical and subtropical climates. The dengue virus is transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female mosquitoes, it said.

The Bacolod City Health Office is respectfully requested to strengthen its campaign and provide an aggressive approach in its campaign to prevent or suppress the spread and increase of dengue fever cases in the City of Bacolod, the resolution added.*
