An unscheduled power interruption yesterday completely blacked the islands of Negros, Panay, Guimaras.
In a statement, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines said it monitored a system disturbance affecting the Visayas grid.
NGCP implemented Manual Load Dropping (MLD) or rotational brownout, starting 6 p.m. last night in the franchise areas of Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, as well as NORECO I and NORECO II in Negros Oriental, as a contingency measure to the generation deficiency.
Red Alert, which refers to the system condition when the contingency reserve is zero or a generation deficiency exists, was declared at 6 to 7 p.m. last night, and Yellow Alert, which also refers to a system condition where the total of all reserves is less than the capacity of the largest plant online, was also declared from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. last night.
Ceneco advised its consumers to turn off their electrical switches for safety reasons while power becomes unstable.*
