President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has promoted Capt. Edgar Ybañez, Coast Guard – Western Visayas District chief, and three others to the rank of ‘Commodore’, which is equivalent to the rank of brigadier general in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, based on the recommendation of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade.
Also promoted to the next higher rank were Coast Guard Captains Ramon Lopez, Joeven Fabul and Mitzie Silva Ocampo.
Ybañez is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1993.
Prior to his present position, Ybañez used to serve as Station Commander of PCG in Bacolod City, Caticlan and Dumaguit in Aklan, as well as in Basco, Batanes. He is a holder of ‘Command at Sea Badge’ for serving as commanding officer of three PCG capital ships.
The newly-promoted one-star generals will take oath before DOTr Secretary Tugade next week.*
