The Department of Interior and Local Government is offering rewards of up to P1.1 million for the arrest of two top leaders of the New People’s Army in Negros Island.
PCol. Jason Capoy, chief of the Police Regional Office 6 Intelligence Division, yesterday said that a bounty of P550,000 is being offered for the apprehension of Arlo Vargas who is reportedly operating in Binalbagan and neighboring areas of central Negros.
Vargas has pending arrest warrants for rebellion, murder and robbery-in-band, Capoy said.
Vargas is the father of Christian Vargas, a platoon leader of the NPA South West Front who was among the four rebels killed in an encounter with Special Action Force commandos in Ilog townin September last year, police said.
The other fugitive rebel leader identified as Magno Flores also has a bounty of P550,000, Capoy said.
Capoy said that Magno, who is facing murder charges, was also denied bail by the court.
Ma. Concepcion Araneta-Bocala, who used to be a resident of Talisay City, Negros Occidental, and secretary of the Komiteng Rehiyonal-Panay of the CPP-NPA, also has a bounty of P5.3 million, he added.
The PRO 6 official urged those who may have information of the fugitive rebel leaders to report it to the nearest police or Army units.*
