Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Roger Mercado recently inaugurated phase 3 of the Boracay Circumferential Road, together with Senior Undersecretary Rafael Yabut, Undersecretary Maximo Carvajal, Assistant Secretary Wilfredo Mallari and DPWH Region 6 Regional Director Tiburcio DL Canlas.

The 1.4-kilometer road portion of the total 21.6-kilometer Boracay Circumferential Road connects Cagban port to Tambisan port, the entry and exit points to the island.

The P140-million project involves concreting/widening of the existing road, construction of drainage system, sidewalk with paving blocks, installation of solar street lights, sprigging, application of thermoplastic pavement markings and provision of access for persons with disabilities.

Mercado said in a press release the improvement of Boracay Circumferential Road is a manifestation of so many purposes such as the determination and political will of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to see that Boracay will remain and be sustained as the prime tourism destination in the Philippines.

Canlas added that the improvement of the 21.6-km road, with a total funding of P1.94 billion, will reduce travel time from Cagban port in Brgy. Manoc-Manoc to Ilig-Iligan Beach in Brgy. Yapak from 1 hour 30 minutes to only 40-45 minutes.*
