A total of 175 family members from various barangays of E. B. Magalona in Negros Occidental have claimed on Wednesday the P5,600 cash assistance for their deceased relatives who were once social pensioners, under the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) Program, at the town covered court public plaza.
Leading the distribution of Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) cash cards were LBP-Victorias City manager Rosie Cuadernal, DSWD-Social Pension Program social welfare assistant Jiffen Batislaon, Municipal Social Welfare Officer Emy Lyn Hibionada, and E. B. Magalona Federation of Senior Citizens Association president Willy Gervacio, with the assistance of Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office staff.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s UCT Program is a government subsidy that provides cash assistance to eligible low-income households. The program is designed to help meet the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing, according to a statement issued by the EB Magalona Public Information Office.
Senior citizens are qualified as UCT Program beneficiaries, as provided for in Republic Act No. 7432, otherwise known as the Senior Citizen Act.*
