A fisherman, whose boat was allegedly hit by an unidentified vessel, died in the waters of Sitio Pangahuyan 1, Barangay Washington in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, at about 4 a.m. yesterday.
Je-Ar Caspe, 29, and his father, whose name was not disclosed, both of the barangay, were fishing in separate bancas when an unidentified vessel bumped the victim, Lt. Comm. Jansen Benjamin, Philippine Coast Guard-Negros Occidental head, said.
He said the father tried to save Je-Ar to no avail.
The PCG is conducting an investigation based on the description of the witness, the time of the incident, and the route, to determine the vessel that rammed Caspe’s boat.
Benjamin said the area where the accident happened is a navigational lane, or frequent route of vessels from Tabuelan to Sagay City in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City.*
