The number of voters in Negros Occidental is expected to increase to two million, after the Commission on Elections registered more than 57,000 new voters, for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) this year, disclosed Provincial Comelec supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria yesterday.

Ananoria reported that they processed more than 57,000 applications in Negros Occidental for the BSKE, scheduled on October 30 this year.

The registration of new voters ended January 30.

It’s more than the 50,000 we expected, Ananoria said.

Of the total accepted applicants, he reported that more or less 14,000 of them are 15 to 17-year-olds, who will vote for a new set of SK officials.

Ananoria said the Election Registration Board (ERB) will convene on February 20 for inclusion and exclusion of new voters, before the submission of the final list to the Comelec central office.

With additional 57,000 voters, Ananoria said Negros Occidental will have more than two million voters in the next elections.

The Comelec once again urged eligible Filipinos to participate in this year’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).*
