The suspected member of the New People’s Army killed in an encounter with soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion in Sitio Bugo, Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, has already been identified.
Maj. Cenon Pancito III, spokesman of the 3rd Infantry Division, identified him as Jose Encancion, with aliases of Kurikoy and Jun Jun, of Sitio Candi-is in the barangay.
Encancion, according to Pancito, served as a member of the Sandatahang Unit Pampropaganda Platoon 1 of Central Negros Front 2.
While his cadaver has not yet been claimed from a funeral parlor in Himamaylan City, Pancito said that his family had acknowledged his identity.
The encounter on May 26 yielded an M1 carbine rifle and two 357 caliber revolvers with ammunition.
Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman, 94IB commander, earlier said that residents in the area were complaining of being harassed by the rebels, who accused them of being military informants.*
