Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer yesterday said that the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) will support incumbent La Carlota City Mayor Rex Jalandoon in the May elections next year.
Ferrer, who is the UNegA president, yesterday made the declaration following revelations of Jalandoon that he will be challenged by Councilor Demi John Honrado for the mayoralty post of La Carlota City.
Honrado used to be the mayor of La Carlota, and became the chief of staff of Ferrer while he was still a congressman of the 4th district of Negros Occidental.
Ferrer said UNegA already issued a CONA (Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance) to Jalandoon and his party mates in La Carlota.
While he did not answer to the question if Honrado already left UNegA, Ferrer said he respects the decision of the former mayor.
Jalandoon, then vice mayor of La Carlota City, assumed the position as mayor of La Carlota in January last year, following the death of Mayor Luis Jalandoni III.
He said that he got the support of almost all members of the La Carlota City Council headed by Vice Mayor David Braga.*
