Typhoon Fabian continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, causing rains over parts of Luzon, the weather bureau said yesterday afternoon.

Scattered to widespread monsoon rains continue to prevail over Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and the northern portion of Palawan, including the Calamian Islands.

The rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will also experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.

“Fabian” was last seen 540 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, moving west-northwestward at 10 kph. It packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

Tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes. Strong breeze to near gale conditions was expected.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecast the rest of the country to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

Rough to very rough seas will continue to prevail over the seaboards of Luzon, and Central and Western Visayas. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, and mariners without the proper experience are advised to immediately seek safe harbor.

Elsewhere, moderate to rough seas will prevail.

Pagasa advised mariners of small seacrafts to take precautionary measures when venturing out to the sea. It added that inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.*PNA
