The Philippine Association of Medical Technologists Inc. (PAMET) Negros Occidental Chapter and Project C.A.R.E.S. (Community Activities Reaching to Everyone through Services) Inc. through its outreach program Bangon Negros “Typhoon Odette” Relief Operations in collaboration with NOcPPO and PNP-Sipalay distributed relief goods to about 180 families in Puroks Sigay and Bagongon in Barangay Nauhang in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental on December 23.
PAMET was represented by chapter officers Liza Santillan, RMT and Andrew Altarejos, RMT while Project C.A.R.E.S. with its Board Secretary Anthony Altarejos, RN, MN and Board Director, Ar. Andton Altarejos, together with volunteers – Aida Segura, Darelyn Resonable, Ryan Christopher Pillada, RMT and Erickjohn Boston.
The outreach program was in cooperation with its program partner and show of support for the Sipalay City Police Office headed by PMAJ James Latayon together with PCpl. Janrey Lozana and Pat. Glenn Lacio who provided the travel security and deployment for the distribution of relief goods from Bacolod City to the affected areas in Sipalay. As of the visit, there are still many unpassable barangays in Sipalay, with several already abandoned by residents now staying in evacuation sites.
Call for the private sector to continue sending relief goods to Sipalay and the CHICKS areas is foreseen in the next weeks to months due to downed electric poles and trees making it difficult to deliver relief goods to people in the mountain communities badly hit by Typhoon Odette.
The PNP-Sipalay police force is recognized as an essential manpower support in the delivery of the contributions.
Still badly needed are food and water supplies, cookware and eating utensils, basic clothing, and especially monetary to augment purchase of housing materials.
A second batch of assistance by Project CARES is being planned. Those who wish to send relief goods may be directed to Project CARES or may directly endorse to PNP-Sipalay through the NOcPPO Headquarters.*
