The Sipalay City government, through the Community Affairs Unit of the Office of the City Mayor, City Health Office and City Social Welfare and Development Office, in collaboration with the Youth for Mental Health Coalition Incorporated, conducted a mental health – medical mission at Barangay Mambaroto Covered Court in the city on August 6.
Youth for Mental Health Coalition Incorporated (Y4MH) has been one of the most active advocates for mental health in the Philippines. They have also participated in the drafting on campaign of RA 11036 or the Philippine Mental Health law.
The health mission aimed to provide mental health and psychosocial support to the identified communities as their initiative in bridging mental health services, educates communities on mental health and highlights the vital role of the youth in nation-building.
The mental health mission was joined by a total of 100 participants consists of children, youth and adults from the community of Barangay Mambaroto. The initiative which gives attention to mental health is necessary especially to Sipalaynons who have been badly hit by typhoon Odette in December 2021.
Negros Occidental Provincial Health Office through Marc Katalbas supported the organization. Also present also during the event was the Executive Assistant Engr. Praem Mediodia, in behalf of City Mayor Maria Gina Lizares. The Community Affairs Unit headed by Acting Community Affairs Officer Gretchel Pedrosa also joined the event, along with her staff.*
