The Department of Public Works and Highways said it has completed the widening of the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road in Silay City, Negros Occidental, worth P45.94-million.

The project involves the widening of the access road from two to four lanes, with a width of three meters, the DPWH announced on its website over the weekend.

Although hampered by the erratic weather experienced toward its scheduled end date, the DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office was able to complete the widening of BSAAR in less than six months since it started construction in February this year.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the improved access road aims to provide ease of travel going to and from the airport, and increase traffic capacity.

The widening of BSAAR, which serves as a link to the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway is also seen to facilitate faster delivery of services and transport of sugarcanes to mills, and provide ease of travel for sugar producers, traders, rural population, and the public.*
