A resolution congratulating and commending Engr. Maria Glensie Hombrebueno for having been selected by Mauritshuis Museum for her artwork, a reinterpretation of Johannes Vermeer’s “A Girl with a Pearl Earring”, was approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.
Authored by Councilor Em Ang, the resolution said the Sangguniang Panlungsod has, on several occasions, paid tribute to outstanding Bacolodnons for their exemplary achievements in bringing home pride and glory to the city by winning international competitions.
Bacolodnon artist Engr. Maria Glensie Hombrebueno’s entry, the reinterpretation of Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” was recently chosen among 3,500 entries, it said.
The resolution said Mauritshuis Museum, a world-class museum in The Hague, Netherlands started an open call last January to reinterpret Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s famous painting, where Hombrebueno’s “Babaeng Nakaperlas” was one of the 170 artworks selected out of 3,500 entries.
Hombrebueno’s artwork was shown on a loop along with other nine works in the museum’s digital frame until April 30. Her work is also featured by Mauritshuis on their website, muritshuis.nl, and also in print in the Vermeer room of the museum, it said.
A Hague-based artist, Hombrebueno is a self-taught painter from Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City and migrated to the Netherlands last 2019, the resolution said.
The international recognition received by Hombrebueno brings pride and honor to Bacolod City and gives inspiration to other local artists as they continue to hone their talent, develop their style, and realize the endless possibilities in arts, it added.*
