Carl Malone Montecido, known as Bacolod’s Blind Balladeer, again brought pride and recognition to Bacolod City after being named a multi-medalist in the World Championships of Performing Arts Virtual 2020, yesterday.
Montecido was a semi-finalist in the Senior Vocal category, and silver medalist in the 18-24 Senior Vocal Variety.
A first-timer in the WCOPA competition, Montecido bested about 70 participants from countries around the world, he told the DAILY STAR.
Due to the raging coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the WCOPA was held virtually via the Internet. Participants were made to perform in their places, edit the video of their performance, and submit it for judging.
Montecido said on his Facebook post that he is thankful for the wonderful experience of being part of Team Philippines, and for all the support that he had gotten.
He also extended his gratitude to his teacher, Rhea Tardaguela Lizada, for trusting in his abilities, which he said he owes to God, to his teachers, principal, classmates at the Bacolod City National High School, to his friends, and to Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya.
Montecido said he offers his WCOPA achievement to his wife, CrisKhen, and their son, who are his inspirations.*
