Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday said that the call for the resignation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is not good for investments.
Davao City Mayor and son of former president Rodrigo Duterte, Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who expressed his dissatisfaction with the present administration, had called on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to resign.
Lacson dismissed the call of Mayor Duterte as “his personal opinion,” stressing that many are still supporting the administration of Marcos Jr.
We should not give the impression that the country is now divided. Because if that happens, it is automatic that business opportunity will just close its doors, and we will have to wait till the next administration, he stressed.
Duterte expressed dismay over the country’s current status, particularly the reported proliferation of illegal drugs and various crime incidents, not only in Davao City, but nationwide.
Lacson said “I do believe that majority of the Filipinos still support the present administration.” In fact, we should give the incumbent administration the opportunity to serve the Filipino people, he further said.
Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez, chair of the Association of Chief Executives of Negros Occidental, admitted that he was surprised by the statements issued by Mayor Duterte, admitting he “does not understand where the criticism is coming from.”
Benitez however said “everyone is free to say whatever they want as we are a democracy.”
In his talks with local leaders in Negros Occidental, Benitez said he was told that that President Marcos “should be given a chance, as it is just a year and half, and expectations are high.”
“We need to be unified at this point, he said, stressing that the President and his team are doing their best to bring development to the country.*
