The Bacolod City Health Office issued an advisory declaring a cholera outbreak in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City.
CHO Advisory No. 02 signed by acting City Health Officer Dr. Grace Tan said that based on water samples collected by the Bacolod City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (BCESU) as part of surveillance activity for submission to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM), it was found that dugwell 1 in Purok Luhodluhod and a dugwell in Purok Ipil-ipil, both in Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City yielded positive results for vibro cholera bacteria.
The most recent report indicates two positive cases of cholera infection in Purok Luhodluhod, Mandalagan, Tan said.
Cholera is caused by ingesting water or food that had been contaminated by the cholera bacterium, causing the infected person to suffer severe diarrhea and vomiting.
The CHO declared a cholera outbreak in Barangay Mandalagan pursuant to the provision of Section 7 of Republic Act 11332.
DENGUE CASES
Meanwhile, the total number of reported dengue cases in Bacolod City is now 939 with 13 deaths, based on reports of the BCESU as of November 19.
The figure is 191.6 percent higher than the number of cases last year, covering the same period, which is 322 with 3 deaths.
The barangays with highest number of cases are Mansilingan with 115 cases, Taculing – 78, Estefania – 66, Tangub and Singcang – 61 each, Villamonte – 55, Alijis – 50, Cabug and Mandalagan – 47 each, and Sum-ag with 42.*
