“Young athletes should do it for their school, family and not to be motivated financially,” disclosed Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday.

“There should be pride in representing Negros Occidental,” Lacson said.

The governor’s statement was in reaction to the question if he will give financial incentives for medalists of the ongoing 2023 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) regional meet in Aklan province.

“I don’t like to do that,” the governor pointed out.

Lacson said that “it should be for the love of the sports, love for the school, love for the province.”

On the other hand, Lacson said he visited the schools where the delegation from the province were staying during the duration of the one-week sporting event.

Billeting centers were comfortable and we are thankful to our hosts in Banga, Aklan, Lacson said.

He said that Anthony Liobet, Negros Occidental Schools Division Superintendent, “made sure that our athletes are comfortable.”*
