NegOcc hosts national archery competition

The Abanse Negrense Grassroots Sports Development Programs of Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson and the Provincial Sports Office are hosting the 18th Archery Grassroots Development Program Leg 2 at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium on March 31 to April 2.

The tournament is in collaboration with the World Archery Philippines, Inc. (WAP, INC.), a recognized National Sports Association of the Philippines Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

The opening ceremony will be on Friday, 9 a.m., to be followed by the competition proper at 10 a.m.

The upcoming archery competition will serve as the qualifying event for young Filipino archers all over the country in preparation for the participation in the World Youth Championship in Ireland on July 1-9. And through this event, Gov. Lacson and the Provincial Sports Office are hoping to promote the sport and stimulate the interest of young Negrense athletes in archery.

The 2023 18th Archery Grassroots Development Program Leg 2 will be participated by at least 300 young archers, team officials, parents, and guests from the different regions in the country. The participants also include Negros Occidental’s active local archery club, United Negrense Archery Club, led by Coach Blaire Ejercito.

Also in attendance during the competition are National Development Coach Nino Sinco, National Coach (for Men) Clint Sayo, National Coach (for Women) Joy Marino, and WAP, Inc. Secretary General Rosendo Sombrio.

Apart from the archery competition, the 2023 Palarong Panlalawigan will also kick off at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium on March 30. The opening ceremony will start with a ceremonial parade at 3 p.m., while the program proper will begin at 3:30 p.m. 

Prior to the commencement of the 2023 Palarong Panlalawigan’s opening program, a short ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place to mark the inauguration of the Pana-ad Track Oval. The ceremony will be spearheaded by Governor Lacson, Provincial Sports Office Head Anthony Carlo Agustin, and PDO IV-Head SPCD Engr. Jose Maria Amugod.*
