NPC mourns death of 2 members

Former radio anchorman Rushmore Ubas and sports writer Jerome Galunan Jr.

The Negros Press Club mourns the deaths of two of its members, former radio anchorman Rushmore Ubas and sports writer Jerome Galunan Jr., who both succumbed to COVID-19 on Sept. 15.

Galunan, 41, a sports blogger, writer, and teacher passed away around 7:10 a.m. yesterday. There is no official statement from the family as to the cause of his death.

A few hours later, Ubas, a former anchorman of Bombo Radyo-Bacolod and Radyo- Bandera- Bacolod, succumbed to COVID-19 at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City.

Galunan was previously a sports editor of the Watchmen Daily Journal. He continued writing on sports for Sunstar- Bacolod and also worked as an Editor for Sportsjourn.com, and as a teacher at the Sum-ag National High School in Bacolod City.

Galunan is survived by his wife and a daughter.

Ubas, 54, was also tagged as the “Raffy Tulfo” of Bacolod City for the many people he has helped in his radio program, especially Negrense and Bacolodnon overseas Filipino workers. Ubas, already widowed, but in a relationship prior to his passing left behind a son and two daughters.

Negros Press Club (NPC) President Yves Buenafe Montecillo said they mourned the loss of two of its members.

Montecillo described Galunan as hardworking and dedicated to his profession both in the education sector and the community media.

He also cited Ubas for his straightforward reporting, insightful, and dynamic commentaries in the air waves.

Montecillo said the NPC extended condolences to the families left behind by Ubas and Galunan.*
