A group of armed men shot and killed a 35-year-old man in Calatrava, while a security guard was found dead at his outpost in Sipalay City, all in Negros Occidental, the police reported yesterday.

Four men, armed with high-powered firearms, shot and killed Junrel Pahayahay and also injured Jenifer Catalugo in the shooting incident Friday night at Sitio Huebesan, Brgy. Marcelo, Calatrava.

Calatrava police investigation showed that two of the four suspects shot Pahayahay and Catalugo without any reason and provocation.

Pahayahay succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while Catalugo, who suffered a gunshot wound in the stomach, is now being treated at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Brgy. Bato, Sagay City.

Recovered from the crime scene were four fired cartridges of a .45 caliber pistol, and an empty shell and live ammunition of an M-16 assault rifle.

The next day, a security guard identified as Richard Gonzaga was also found dead at his post in Brgy. San Jose, Sipalay City.

Gonzaga, a member of the Double Tap Security Agency and tasked to guard a Smart cell site in the place, succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head and left shoulder, the police said.

The motives of the two shooting incidents are still being established by the police.*
