The monitoring network of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology stationed at Kanlaon Volcano recorded 26 volcanic quakes yesterday, compared to single digit quakes in the past several days.

During the 24-hour observation period, weak to moderate emission of white steam-laden plumes that rose 400 meters before drifting southwest and northwest were observed, the Phivolcs said.

Alert level 1 remains in effect, and the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone should be strictly being observed by local government units around Kanlaon Volcano, as ordered by Phivolcs. Ground deformation data from continuous GPS and electronic tilt measurements have been recording a slight inflation of the lower and middle slopes since June 2020,which may indicate hydrothermal, tectonic, or deep-seated magmatic processes occurring deep beneath the edifice, the Phivolcs bulletin stated.*
