Sixty-five motorcycle drivers were apprehended in Negros Occidental and Bacolod City for failure to comply with the “no barrier, no back-riding” policy of the national Inter-Agency Task Force Against Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) Saturday up to yesterday.

Majority of the motorists opted for riding solo, than for pillion riding and installing the approved barrier for motorcycles, in the first two days of the policy implementation in Bacolod and Negros Occidental.

Lt. Col. Luisito Acebuche, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office head, said yesterday that they apprehended 28 violators in the city on Saturday and 20 yesterday.

The Highway Patrol Group-Negros Occidental, meanwhile, caught 17 violators, its head, P/Capt. Robelito Mariano, said yesterday.

Only married couples and live-in partners are allowed for pillion riding, provided they show documents, such as a marriage contract and barangay certificate to prove that they are, indeed, living together.*
