Thirty-one houses were razed by fire and 12 others were damaged when a fire broke out in one of the houses along the coastal area of Sitio Dacutan Dako, Brgy. Mambulac, Silay City Tuesday noon.

The fire, which lasted for almost two hours, was estimated to have destroyed about P500,000 worth of properties and displaced 43 families.

Fourteen families have sought shelter in Mambulac Elementary School and while 29 other families either stayed with their relatives or friends. They were provided food assistance from the Silay City Government.

Silay Mayor Mark Golez said the affected families will be provided financial assistance by the city government to help them rebuild their homes.

The fire quickly spread because the houses located along the coastal area were mostly made of light materials, he said.*
