Covid-19 survivors in Bacolod City are urged to donate blood plasma for use in the convalescent plasma treatment of patients as medicines are very expensive.

A resolution, authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito, said convalescent plasma therapy is a procedure where blood from people who have recovered from an illness, such as Covid-19, is used to help other patients recover.

The blood donated by recovered patients has anti-bodies to help fight the virus, the resolution said.

In most countries, plasma therapy has been found to be an effective means to treat moderate and severe Covid-19 cases, the resolution said.

As of Sept. 4, Bacolod City had 1,492 Covid-19 cases with 595 recoveries, it added.

In the spirit of “bayanihan” and to help prevent deaths, those who have recovered from Covid-19 are urged to donate their blood plasma through the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and the City Health Office for proper administration, it added.

The resolution said the city’s Inter-Agency Task Force against Covid-19, through the CHO and the Liga ng mga Barangay, may create a list of volunteers, indicating their contact numbers and addresses that can be shared with all hospitals.

It also appealed to the Office of the Mayor to grant financial assistance to donors.*
