Cluster 5 composed of Barangays Pacol, Sagasa and Bagroy in Bago City was declared champion of this year’s Sigabong sang mga Kanyon (Canon Competition), after besting seven other contestants during the commemoration of Al Cinco de Noviembre in Bago, Saturday.
Cluster 7 (Barangays Taloc, Calumangan and Sampinit) was the first runner-up, followed by Cluster 4 (Barangays Dulao, Abuanan and Atipuluan) as second runner-up.
Cluster 6 (Barangays Poblacion, Lag-asan and Tabunan) was the third runner-up.
Meanwhile, Cluster 6 won Best in Storyline and dominated the Dance Drama: Amakan kag Nipa sa Kasaysayan sang Negros, followed by Cluster 1 (Barangays Ilijan, Don Jorge and Bacong) at first runner-up.
Cluster 5 (Barangays Pacol, Sagasa and Bagroy) was second runner-up and Cluster 8 (Barangays Ma-ao, Mailum and Binubuhan) was third runner-up.
Al Cinco de Noviembre, also known as Negros Day, is celebrated every November 5 to commemorate the Negrenses’ revolt against Spanish colonizers in 1898.
The event started with the Philippine Navy Reservists Unity Walk at 4 a.m. followed by the wreath-laying ceremony at General Juan Araneta Monument at 7:30 a.m., led by Board Member Andrew Martin Torres who also gave an inspirational message.
Also present were members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bago City, department heads, veterans, government agencies, and the family of Gen. Juan Araneta.*
